Embrace the Wonky

October 20, 2015 No Comments by Heidi

After a year of Fridays among hand sewing quilters, I cracked. I started a small EPP (English paper piecing) project and it’s highly addictive.

I love all the prep that goes into it. Cutting paper back pieces, then the fabric and wrapping the fabric around the paper. The process is very slow and meditative. The hand sewing part is much quicker in comparison.

Sometimes the edges don’t line up or one edge is slightly longer than the other or my stitching isn’t neat. You know what? I don’t care. Really I don’t. It’s my first hand sewing project and my first EPP project. It is going to be wonky. If I continue with this craft I will look at it as I do my first knit piece (I no longer have my 1st crochet stuff)  or my first machine sewing projects. They are all lovely. I made them with my own two hands. They are all slightly wonky but I don’t love them any less, sometimes I love them more.

We are not machines. What we make will have flaws but I guarantee 9 times out of 10 only you will notice it. So embrace the wonky when you first start out with a new to you craft.
